Understanding the City of Calgary 30-Day JET Sweep Cycle
If you are rough sleeping in Fish Creek, along the Bow River corridors, or in city green spaces, you need to understand how the municipal displacement machine actually operates:
1. Days 1–10 (The 311 Complaint & Initial Assessment): Peace Officers, PAL, and Vulnerable Persons Teams visit to confirm site occupancy.
2. Days 10–20 (Bylaw Warnings): Officers return to issue verbal warnings and offer shelter referrals.
3. Day 20 (Formal Vacate Notice Posted): A written notice is posted directly on tents or trailers giving an ultimatum (usually 24 to 72 hours) to pack and abandon the site.
4. Day 30 (The Sweep & Destruction): City sanitation and CPS arrive. Any remaining structures, sleeping bags, blankets, cooking supplies, and identification left behind are discarded into waste trucks.
Field Rule: Do not leave primary identification, phones, or critical paperwork inside unattended tents or camper trailers. Use public library vaults or digital scans. Post active notices, date stamps, and officer badge numbers here so our community can track sweep patterns across Wards.
